In the s-PAW-tlight: Spreading Holiday Cheer!
Each year Paradise supports a local charity by placing a donation bin in our lobby. In previous years we have collected donations for Homeward Pet Adoption Center and Ginger’s Pet Rescue; this year we are proudly helping support the Maltby Food Bank! The Maltby Food Bank is a local, non-profit organization that reaches out to families in need. With the recent down turn in the economy, the need for help this year is greater. By collecting non-perishable food items, even toys and gifts the Maltby Food Bank helps support over 6,000 families by distributing 511,612 pounds of food to children, adults and seniors.
One of our staff members, Natalie Oswald, featured in last months’ employee spotlight, also shares her time with the Maltby Food Bank as assistant director. The Maltby Food Bank operates strictly on a volunteer basis; Natalie has been with them for 5 years and will be our connection for donations.
This year the Maltby Food Bank will be accepting pet food donations to help feed and save the lives of thousands of cherished family pets. Food collected will help benefit some of the many adoptable animals at Homeward Pet Adoption Center in Woodinville and other local, non-profit animal shelters. Donations to the Maltby Food Bank will be accepted through the month of December.
During this holiday season, we would like to ask our customers to help us in supporting a wonderful local cause. Please bring non-perishable food items, pet food, toys or gifts to Paradise Pet Lodge. We will also accept monetary donations. The holidays are the biggest time of need and no donation is too small. Donate five dollars worth of goods to the food bank and receive a free 12 oz drink of your choice from the Paws Here Coffee Shop!

Winter Wonderland!
We at Paradise are all about the latest fashions, functions and fun when it comes to doggie gift giving! Stylish collars, coats and accessories make great holiday gifts for your pets. We have picked out some of our favorite sensible safety gifts to help your pet combat the nasty winter weather in style!
Facing a La Nina year, this winter is supposed to be very cold and snowy in our usually mild Pacific Northwest. With many pets intrigued by the snow, it’s important to keep sensitive paws safe. Even if your pets do not venture beyond the boundaries of their own yard, short exposure to the snow and cold can dry out paw-pads and cause them to become tender. Consider specially made dog booties: we like Ruff-Wear Bark n’ Boots. Designed to help paws stay warm and provide traction in snow and ice. They fit just above the wrist joint, helping to ensure snows stays out and warmth stays in. Available in many sizes, they make the perfect addition to any canine wardrobe! Check them out at www.ruffwear.com.
Also consider using a pet safe de-icer for slippery sidewalks and porches. Most ice melts contain chloride which can cause severe gastrointestinal issues if ingested; not to mention they can be abrasive to your walkways and concrete and can cause harm to the environment too. Choose a pet friendly ice melt to quickly thaw away the snow and ice. Try Morton “Safe-T-Petâ€; made by the Morton Salt Company and developed by veterinarians, it is non-toxic and is safe for the environment. Should a curious Fido accidentally ingest some of the blue pellets, it won’t cause stomach upsets. Another great one, which we use at Paradise, is Safe Paws Ice Melter. It uses a dual action time-release formula to melt away snow fast, and continues working as more ice and snow to build up. Both products can be found at Petco stores or at www.petco.com.
How about a new bed for the holidays? The latest craze is pet air beds. Made of claw and nail proof canvas, covered in a stylish case, they are great for geriatric dogs! They are also odor and allergen free because the only filling is air; they never compress or break down. They are also machine washable and veterinarian recommended for any pet that is seeking a little extra comfort. Gertie Gear features a variety of sizes, shapes and additional slipcovers. You can see their whole selection at www.etsy.com/shop/GertieGear. They also have a selection of fleece ropes and chew toys for dogs, as well as fleece catnip pouches for cats!
Keep in mind we also have a nice selection of plush fleece snuggle beds for sale in our lobby. Available in many colors and sizes they are all hand made and perfect for your pet!
Looking to “bling†out your dog’s collar? With so many stylish collars, it is hard to choose the right one for each occasion. May we suggest collar charms? Made with fashionable rhinestone attachments, they make the perfect accessories to spice up any collar; we even sell them in our grooming room! If you are looking for a new collar for Fido for Christmas, check out Yellow Dog Design. They use bright prints and fabrics to make your dog stand out in a crowd. With matching leashes available, a new collar would make the perfect holiday gift. Come into our lobby or go to www.yellowdog-design.com to see their wide selection and variety of collars, leashes, harnesses and collar charms.
Happy Holidays to all of you and your pets! We hope this is a safe and happy time of year for all. See you in 2011!

Who is Boo?
| As many of you have seen, our office has a new puppy roaming around behind our desks. A little black and white, 3 month old, Chihuahua named Boo has captured all of our hearts. Her doggie brother is Jack, a one year old Dalmatian who comes in Monday through Friday for day care. Many of you have started asking, “Where’s Booâ€, when she isn’t in our office on the weekends. Jack spends his days going for individual play times, group play times and has even tested the water in our Pet Spa pool. His human mom has the biggest heart and after attending a charity luncheon for the Humane Society, she walked away with Boo in her arms. Boo is still too little to join her brother in his daycare activities, so she gets to spend her days in our laps, in her bed or playing with Lilly. This little one has quite the personality, and quite the bark, but we sure love having her as part of our office team. |

A Twist of Fate
As luck would have it, we have two exciting announcements to make, and they both happened on the same day! We want to say a big congratulations to two of our employees, newlywed Alicia, and new mom Nicole!
As the planning of Alicia’s wedding continued, we all joked that Nicole would steal Alicia’s thunder if she were to deliver her baby on the same day. Well as fate would have it Nicole made her trip to the hospital as Alicia was saying “I do†to her long time sweetheart, Randy, at their ceremony in Marysville. As Alicia and Randy’s flight landed in California for their honeymoon, Nicole welcomed into the world baby Andrew James (A.J.). Little A.J. made his entrance weighing 7 pounds 4 ounces and with a head full of thick black hair.
We want to wish both Alicia and Randy, Nicole, daddy James and baby A.J. all the best. We wish you happiness, love and lots of pets! |
