In the s-PAW-tlight:
Congratulations to our Grooming Salon, Nominated for
Evening Magazines' Best of Western Washington Awards! Our full service
salon features 6 full-time stylists and 2 full-time bathers to truly
pamper your pets.
Our stylists have a collective 40 years of experience in the pet grooming
industry, and have competed in regional and national grooming
competitions, receiving awards and trophies. Several of them have been a
part of the show circuit, showing various breeds of dogs, and cats too!
Our grooming gals specialize in all-breed grooming, and have experience
with hard-to-handle and aggressive pets. They strive to make every
experience your pet has in the salon a positive one. All of our shampoos,
conditioners, skin and coat creams are made of natural ingredients,
biodegradable and are cruelty-free. Go online to www.king5.com/best to vote for us in
the Best of Western Washington Awards by Evening Magazine in the
pets/grooming category.
Our salon offers a wide variety of services including facials, temporary
Petattoos, paw and nail treatments, and teeth brushing. Now we are
introducing the new PlaqClnz system, proven to improve your pet's breath
in just 30 seconds! First, a pre-treatment spray is put on your pets' teeth
prior to their bath. Then, during bathing a gentle waterpik is used to
help remove plaque and tarter that the pre-treatment has helped to break
down. The system is finished with an at-home gel treatment to help
continue the process of plaque breakdown for optimal results. It is
recommended to use PlaqClnz salon treatment every 6 to 8 weeks and daily
with the PlaqClnz home treatment gel, no brushing required!
Give the salon a call today to schedule your pets' next appointment and
ask about PlaqClnz. And as a reminder, and don't forget to pre-book your
pets' holiday salon appointment!

Warming up for Cool Weather
As cooler weather begins to take over our warm summer
sunshine, there are a few things you should be aware of and know to make
sure your pet is set!
* Now is a good time to talk to your vet about possible arthritis
prevention before the weather gets too cold. Many older pets suffer from
seasonal arthritis, and the cold and damp weather can often times make
arthritis pain worse. In addition to prescription medications, there are
now many over-the-counter treatments available for cats and dogs to help
keep their joints maintain range of motion and flexibility. A useful
product on the market, "pet stairs", helps to minimize impact on
shoulders and elbows when jumping up and down from a higher surface.
* Try to keep your pet indoors as much as possible. Make sure he/she has
something warm to snuggle on or under if staying in the garage; the concrete
floor deflects heat, so the temperature in the garage is always lower
than it is inside the house. You might even want to try a specially made
dog sweater or coat for those pets that have smooth coats or are small in
size. Coats and/or sweaters help keep heat close to the body to help your
dog stay warm.
* Keep outside walks short when it is snowing or the temperatures have
dropped below freezing. Dogs, like people, can become hypothermic.
Hypothermia sets it when the body temperature drops below what is needed
for normal functioning; watch for signs of excessive trembling and
shivering, and shallow breathing. Take your pet indoors immediately if
you think they are suffering from hypothermia and contact your vet.
Surprisingly, dogs and cats can also suffer from frostbite. The most
commonly affected places are the tips of the ears, the tail and the toes.
Be sure to dry off your pets' feet completely when coming back indoors to
help warm the feet back up to normal temperature. After warming up the affected
area, if the skin remains cold to the touch or you suspect permanent
damage, contact your vet immediately.
* If your pet insists on daily winter walks, a feasible option is
specially made dog booties; they come in various sizes and materials and
slip right on the foot. Most are made with a Velcro strap to secure them
around the "ankle". Booties can help keep your pets feet warm and dry
during walks in the rain and the snow.
* During any stay at Paradise, consider Pet Spa activities which can be
especially beneficial during cooler weather. Our Spa Fitness Coaches
would be happy to explain in detail the many benefits of hydrotherapy and
canine massage. Our warm salt water pool would be perfect for those pets
that are picky about the cold weather or have seasonal arthritis
problems. Canine massage offers ultimate relaxation, helping to reduce
stress and anxiety. Right now we are also offering a Pet Spa promotion
see "Spaw" Pampering for details and information.
* More cold weather tips will follow in the upcoming editions of
Pawsitively Paradise.
