In the s-PAW-tlight: A toast to our new Paradise Pet Lodge Wine.
The owners of Paradise came together with the winemakers
at Rio Vista Winery in Lake Chelan to come up with our very own, private
label, limited artist series wine. We have 4 extraordinary varieties
available for sale, each one different and delicious.
2008 Chardonnay: aged and fermented in stainless steel barrels, resulting
in a bright, golden color with flavors of pear, apple and apricot.
Perfectly crisp and refreshing for a beautiful summer day!
2008 Riesling: semi-sweet and very refreshing, you will taste juicy
peaches, tropical fruits and melon. It is sure to make your mouth water!
2008 Sunset on the River: a staff favorite, and after tasting the unique
blend of Gewurztraminer and Pino Gris, you are sure to see why! The
cherry and raspberry flavors combine with sweet, tropical fruit notes;
described best as a "fruit party in your mouth"!
2007 Loony Red: an exquisite blend of estate grown Cabernet, Merlot and
Syrah, this wine is barrel aged for 18 months and leaves a smooth finish
on your tongue. Black cherry and plum make this wine perfect to enjoy
with company! Cheers!
In addition, we now offer our own lead free glasses which help to enhance
the aroma and taste of the wine. They are etched with our logo and are
also for sale.

Spa
Open House: Thank you!
Big thanks go out to all of our customers, who came by to
help our Pet Spa celebrate its one year anniversary at the open house!
Julie Austin was there and captured some very memorable moments, did
anyone else see Gus belly flop in the pool? Or Roxy the wonder Chihuahua
doggie paddle with ease? Some of our customers were also able to let
their pets test the waters of our pool, and to some surprise, their dogs
turned out to be talented swimmers!
Beamer showed off our fabulous, relaxing massage room, and was more than
happy to roll over for some extra belly rubs!
Brian Baarstad was our masterful chef for the event grilling up delicious
mini-burgers with our own Whiskey Flats Barbeque Sauce, yummy! Thanks
Brian!
The event was a success! Thanks again to our customers and our dedicated
staff who worked so hard in planning a great open house; we could not
have done it without you!
In case you missed any of the action, you can check out Julie Austin's
website, for a photo play-by-play!

Furry Friends, Fun, Fireworks, and the
4th!
A holiday for celebration and fireworks isn't quite what
our Founding Fathers had in mind when they signed the Declaration of
Independence in 1776, but it is what we know and love about the 4th of
July. Pets seem to enjoy the barbeques and festivities just as much too,
visible by the begging and mingling amongst guests, but pets need to
celebrate safely too!
* The 4th is one of the largest holidays for lost pets, so please be sure
your pet is wearing some type of identification, or at least has been
microchipped, at all times. A collar without tags or correct information
is no good.
* No matter how good and well trained the company is not to feed the dog,
the dog should be kept inside. Barbequed meat with bones can create a
choking hazard that might go unnoticed during a backyard celebration. An
open backyard and occupied owners also leave a lot of chances for a dog
to dig out, or climb the fence.
* Keep the radio playing. It is proven that the tone of the music can
help with a dog or cats attitude and anxiety level; Classical and Jazz
music are your best bets to help keep your pets calm. Louder volume will
also help drown out the noise of any fireworks that might cause distress
in your pet.
* Leave all windows closed and locked. An open window provides an
opportunity for a spooked pet to jump out and escape. Keep your pet in a
quiet, sheltered area where it feels safe, a bedroom is always a good
option.
* If you fear that your pet will not handle the added stress of a
celebration or of fireworks, talk to your vet; there are medications
available to help your pet calm down and help them tolerate the loud
boom's and bangs of exploding fireworks.

"Hot" Tips for Summer Heat
Now that a streak of warm weather has come across our
usually rainy Pacific Northwest, preparing your pets for summer is a
great way to keep them healthy, and an even better way to ensure they
have a safe summer.
* A good thorough check up with your vet is always a good idea, no matter
what season, but especially crucial during the summer. The vet can ensure
that your pet is up-to-date on vaccinations, help you create a plan for
safe and effective flea and tick prevention, and prescribe any necessary
medication to help your pet get through the summer.
* Never leave your pet unattended in a vehicle, windows down or not.
According to a study done by a well recognized, Ivy League, university,
the temperature in your car, even on a 70 degree day, can rise 40 degrees
or more in only 20 minutes. Hyperthermia, or overheating, can cause
irreversible brain and organ damage and can even be fatal. Do you know
how to spot the signs of hyperthermia in your pet? Watch for rapid and
continuous panting, excessive and thick saliva, lack of coordination, and
a glassy look in their eyes. If you think your pet is overheating, place
him or her in cool, not cold water, and contact your vet immediately!
* If your dog is one of those who looks forward to daily play time or
walks, the early morning is the best time to go out for a run or stroll.
If the weather begins to get humid, take your pet inside for a cool down,
the thickness of humid air can make it harder for your pet to breathe,
increasing the chances of overheating.
